On Loon Lake

Our History

Indian Woods Residential Association, INC (IWRA) is a Michigan Domestic Non-Profit Corporation established on November 1, 1954 in Waterford, Michigan. A developer acquired the land and built the first home in 1955. Today, there's just one lot left undeveloped, while 48 homes now grace the subdivision. The bylaws were put in place in 1956 through a majority vote by the residents, and the board of directors was also formed that same year. Subdivision roads were paved in 1966.

There was a section of the property deemed unsuitable for home building, which the developer generously donated in 1956. The community transformed this parcel into a multi-acre PARK initially including tennis courts. The park continues to serve residents today with playground equipment and a baseball diamond. Additionally, a community BEACH was developed on all-sports Loon Lake, which has become a beloved summer getaway for everyone in the neighborhood. Loon Lake boasts a maximum depth of 73 feet and spans 243 acres, connecting to Schoolhouse Lake and Silver Lake, and eventually flows to Cass Lake and the Clinton River and finally to Lake St Clair.
